thyssenkrupp Uhde boasts a long tradition in the engineering and construction of plants for the production of plastics. We are a leading supplier of polymer plants and together with selected licensors we build our customers a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art plants for the production of polyethylenes (PE) of all densities and polypropylene (PP).
As a process-oriented engineering company thyssenkrupp Uhde has a wealth of experience and dedicated teams specialised in different types of polyolefin technologies. Our scope of services covers every aspect of plant design, from basic engineering to detail engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
The engineering and construction services provided by thyssenkrupp Uhde include all process steps found at a plant, from the sensitive reactor system to the extrusion, drying, storage and packing units.
thyssenkrupp Uhde has built on its technological competence over decades by participating in the evolution of the technology from the first plant designed for a capacity of only 6,000 tonnes per year to the one of the world's biggest plants with an annual capacity of 420,000 tonnes.
thyssenkrupp Uhde is also a proven expert in the design of LDPE plants with working pressures in excess of 3,000 bar. Our excellent process knowledge and exceptional structural know-how is perfectly complemented by the expertise of our own high pressure manufacturing facilities at Uhde High Pressure Technologies.
Furthermore, our company can supply tailor-made solutions for the entire propane - propylene - PP process chain. The same utility units (e.g. steam generation unit, refrigeration unit, cooling tower etc.) can thus be used for each element in the process chain, further increasing the feasibility of such projects. By combining any PP technology with thyssenkrupp Uhde's STAR process for the dehydrogenation of propane (PDH) to propylene, the production costs for polypropylene can be significantly decreased as cheap propane feedstock from natural gas liquids (NGL) or associated gases can be used.
A process chain of this kind was commissioned in Egypt. The plant has a yearly capacity of 350,000 tonnes of propylene and 350,000 tonnes of PP.
