When Luca Nowaczyk left school, he knew one thing for sure: he wanted to get involved, contribute ideas and make things happen right from the start. As a commercial apprentice at thyssenkrupp Uhde, he is doing just that: he has his own projects and is gaining exciting insights into various departments – from Purchasing and HR to Communications and Sales.
When Luca realized his university course in logistics wasn’t giving him enough hands-on experience, thyssenkrupp Uhde immediately stood out as the perfect place to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The chance to apply his knowledge while discovering how an international chemical plant contractor operates convinced him to take the leap. What keeps him motivated every day is the incredible variety of projects and operational areas that make his apprenticeship so exciting.
One Company, Countless Learning Opportunities
Luca was first placed in IT, where he quickly familiarized himself with the core applications needed for his daily work. Before long, he was off to the next department: “During my apprenticeship, I regularly move through different departments, which gives me a broad range of insights and cross-functional skills”, he explains. Now in Communications, Luca is already taking on real responsibility – contributing to internal and external communications as well as social media projects.
What Luca values most about his colleagues is how quickly he was welcomed and involved in the teams’ work. During the first year of an apprenticeship, the most important thing is to absorb as much knowledge as possible. And thanks to being entrusted with his own small projects, Luca has already been able to contribute to day-to-day business: “I have the opportunity to contribute my ideas to several projects. I’m taken seriously, supported and I can grow professionally,” he says. Being able to directly apply what he learns at vocational school keeps him motivated, while the trust and encouragement he receives from colleagues and superiors inspire him to take on more responsibility.
Looking Beyond: A Sustainable and International Perspective
Responsibility also plays a huge role for Luca when it comes to sustainability. At thyssenkrupp Uhde, he experiences firsthand how environmentally friendly technologies and resource-efficient workflows are prioritized. It starts with the little things: digital collaboration and paperless processes are part of his everyday work. As an apprentice, he is involved in projects that drive the green transformation of industry. Since starting his apprenticeship, Luca has come to see how strongly sustainability, responsibility and teamwork are embedded in thyssenkrupp Uhde’s culture. For him, it’s clear that the company doesn’t just focus on economic goals – it also embraces its social responsibility. Outside of work, Luca values making a positive impact through small, mindful actions.
In his spare time, you’ll often find the commercial apprentice at the gym: “It’s the perfect way to just wind down,” he says. He also enjoys discovering new places and cultures through travel. With thyssenkrupp Uhde operating in 16 countries worldwide, the company couldn’t be a better match for Luca’s international outlook.
